Are you looking for a fun way for yourself and your family and friends to spend the day? Are you interested in opportunities that allow you to connect with neighbors while supporting those in the greatest need in our community? Then consider joining Family and Community Resources (FCR) for our annual Walk for Survivor Safety & Community Cultural Fair!
The mission of Family and Community Resources is to provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all survivors of trauma, including those affected by domestic and sexual violence, substance abuse, bereavement, and other causes. However, survivors are often hesitant to come forward because cultural and societal stigmas surrounding domestic violence create fear that they will not be believed or supported.
Participating in the Walk helps us prove these beliefs wrong — domestic violence is not the survivor’s fault, and there are people out there ready and willing to support them along their path to a happy, healthier future.
Beyond showing support for survivors, the Walk is also an opportunity to highlight the incredible diversity that makes Brockton and all the South Shore so unique! The event features a great variety of small businesses, food trucks, and a performance by the Brockton-based band Tower Hill.
We all understand that the aim of equality and justice is ongoing, and by highlighting businesses that provide and celebrate culturally informed products (like Greek pastries or dolls from around the world), we take step toward forming a greater understanding and appreciation of what each of us brings to the community!
If you are interested in joining FCR, the Walk for Survivor Safety & Community Cultural Fair will be held October 19 at the Holiday Inn Express in Brockton. Registration opens at 9:30 a.m. and the Walk and all our festivities will likely wrap up between 2 and 2:30 p.m. You can sign up as an individual or create a team and compete with others to raise the most money!
Follow the links for individual and team registration at http://www.fcr-ma.org/2024-walk-for-survivor-safety. We hope you will join us and help prove that no survivor needs to walk the path to safety alone!
