Mommy Time Out

By: Kristen Clifford

Until this past weekend, I had never spent a night away from my kids or my husband. But lately I’ve been feeling overwhelmed and bogged down by “Mommy” stuff. When an opportunity for a Mommy Time Out presented itself, I jumped on it.

My husband agreed to stay home with all three kids for the weekend and I hopped on a plane to Malibu! I met up with 26 other Moms and we had a husband- and kid-free weekend. It was truly amazing!

While I was away, I realized how important it really is to take time out for myself. Before my trip, I felt like I was losing my identity and that my only quality/hobby was to be a Mom. Don’t get me wrong, being a Mom is a huge part of who I am, but it’s not all that I am. It took this amazing weekend away for me to realize how much I really needed it.

I came home jet lagged and oh-so-tired, but I was re-energized and ready to be a better Mom. Taking time away to focus on me has allowed me to be able to be more present when I’m with my kids. Plus, hanging out with 26 other Moms leads to so much fun, like this:

I’m telling all you Moms (and Dads!) out there: take some time for yourself. It will make you a better parent in the long run.
