In my family we are big into making New Years Resolutions. Last year, I made a post about how to stick to your resolutions. I like to not only make my own resolutions, but I also like to sit down as a family and set resolutions/goals for the family and each kid.
I think the new year is a great time to sit back and reflect on the things you were good at and the things that you need to try harder at. Depending on the age of the child, their goals will differ. For my 2 year old twins their goals for the new year will be things like:
- Learn how to use the potty
- Try using our words when angry, not our hands or teeth
- Help clean up toys
My 4 year old on the other hand will have more goals like:
- Make my own bed
- Keep my room clean
- Limit TV time each day
- Spend more time outside playing
I also like for our family to set goals to achieve together, like:
- Spend more time doing physical activities as a family
- Spend more time volunteering as a family
It’s important to include your children in deciding these goals. This activity needs to be done as a family, so everyone must be aware of each others’ goals and the goals of the family as a whole. I find the best way to help your children strive to achieve their goals is to lead by example. If they see you trying to reach your new goals, they too will try to reach theirs.
Making resolutions is not meant to be stressful; it’s meant to be a time for reflection and a time to help you refocus on family.
I hope you all have a great New Year!
I think that is a great idea!!! And what a great way to get the kids involed.
