Stitch Fix

By: Tanya Pimental

As the seasons change, I start to dwell on my wardrobe. What will still fit, what isn’t stained or overly worn out from last year, how do I stay trendy and comfortable without breaking the bank?

Then someone recommended Stitch Fix to me.  It sounded like a great way to try some new items. Dare I even try some things outside of my comfort zone? I currently have a wardrobe made up or things from Target and TJ Maxx/Marshalls. Solo shopping trips when I can browse and try on are in days long past.

Here is how the service works:

  • Sign up at Stitch Fix
  • Fill out your detailed Style Profile
  • Schedule your first “Fix” and get excited as your stylist chooses some great clothes for you
  • Pay the $20 styling fee and wait for the pretty box to arrive
  • Receive a box full of items hand-picked by a personal stylist, just for you, based on your profile
  • Try everything on, keep what you want, send back what you don’t want in the pre-paid envelope. (The $20 styling fee comes off the price of anything you choose to keep and if you buy all 5 items, you get a 25% discount!)

Once I scheduled my fix, I stalked the tracking number and the list of pieces coming my way. The surprise element is always fun. The box came nicely packaged with a note from the stylist. I felt so grown up opening everything. One of the other fun elements is that Boxthey send along suggested outfits with each piece. This is huge for me when trying to figure out how to pair things up.

The fix did not disappoint. I like the stuff that came in my first fix but am not yet sold on the prices. That said, I would totally do it again to see what else I would get. In fact, I already scheduled a second fix. Sadly, I am unable to take a picture of myself (I am always amazed at those that can do so). I always get the flash in my mirror or the angle crops off the part I wanted in the photo.

The necklace is nice but I don’t know if I’d actually wear it, so I didn’t even take it out of the box. For jewelry, I really want something that makes more a of statement than this does. It’s just not a keeper if I am going to keep some of the other items in my box.

I wanted to love the flower print blouse. The colors are truly perfect, but the fit was funky. It seems like the pleating at the chest is crooked. Maybe my chest is lopsided? I really did want to like this and it’s a medium, but maybe it would be better/looser in a large so it flowed better at the hip. Maybe I can find something similar elsewhere.

Flower Top - Necklace

The purple cardigan is a keeper for sure.  The color is fantastic. It’s longer, so it’s perfect for layering in the fall. It’s something I would buy shopping on my own. Also, I really love the dark maroon dolman sleeve v-neck sweater! It’s similar to things I had pinned on Pinterest and if I could figure out how to look good in skinny jeans it would be perfect for fall. I will add these two items to my fall wardrobe.

Then there was this hideous long funky cream colored tank that would look good on someone older than I. At first I didn’t try it on because I didn’t like it and the price was outrageously high. I did try it on out of curiosity and it did look nice but summer is ending and the price was not right.  It went into the mailing envelope.

You can also link your social media accounts to share some of who you are with the stylist. I strongly encourage you to give it a shot and get your fix!  I already ordered another.
