Last month was ovarian cancer awareness month.
This disease remains a serious illness for women everywhere. Sadly, we do not have a screening test to identify the disease early like we do with the Pap smear for cervical cancer. Unfortunately, routine use of blood tests such as the CA 125 have not been shown to be helpful.
Ovarian Cancer remains a leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. If you have a close relative, like a mother or sister, or a large number of aunts and cousins that have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, please talk with your provider to see if you are an appropriate candidate for special genetic testing.
