With the New Year now upon us, it is time to set goals on tackling home projects. No matter what time or month, goals will help you be accountable for what you want done in the coming future.
When it comes to home projects your focus has to be on the feel you want to portray. Do you want to go modern? Do you want a country-feel? The options are endless and tiring to think about but reining in on what you want the most will really help.
After you have decided on a feeling that you want in your space, it is now time to take it step by step.
Focus on One Room at a Time
Taking on one room at a time will help to not overwhelm you. Key in on what tasks need to be done to the specific space. Making one room perfect and show-off worthy at a time will slowly reveal your puzzle pieces of paradise.
Declutter
One aspect you must keep in mind when trying to revamp a space, is clutter. We all have clutter, focus in on what really needs to be in the space and what is just there because it has always been. If you have a lot more extra “stuff” than you anticipated, start piles for a yard sale or donations so that you don’t feel as bad about getting rid of it. You will be giving the items a second chance at life through someone else’s space and if you do a yard sale—you’ll get extra money to use towards your project at hand.
If you are working on an office space for example, do you really need that extra clothes bin or shoe organizer in the corner? If it doesn’t belong in the space—move it. If you can’t find an immediate location for it to be used, put it in the donation/yard sale pile. (Online yard-sale sites are all the rage right now—you don’t have to wait for the warm weather and hold onto those items)
Do Something Unique
When you work on your space, personal touches are always a great way to add character. If there is a furniture project that you really want to try, I suggest you focus on these after the space has been organized. This will give you a better grasp on where this item can go and how to incorporate it in the space properly.
With all of the DIY videos and TV shows out there, in this generation, we are not shorthanded when it comes to unique ways to add to a space for cheap.
