Bargain-Hunting for Kids Clothing

By: Kristen Clifford

I love kids clothing! I love for my kids to look super cute and I love dressing my kids in nicer labels. What I don’t love is the price of kids clothing, especially when I need to buy clothes for three kids.

In order for me to be able to do this, I need to bargain hunt. Some ways I do this are:

1- Clearance Racks

Clearance racks are my friends! I cannot pass by a clearance rack without digging through it. A lot of times I walk away empty handed, but sometimes I score a great deal. I always try to buy clothes on the off-season to plan ahead for next year. I can never be sure what size my ever-growing kids will be, but I guess. I figure if come next summer my oldest doesn’t fit into the shorts I scored for $1.99 then no big deal, maybe they’ll some day fit my youngest.

2- Coupons

I sign up for every kids clothing store’s emailing list. This way, the stores email their weekly deals, which usually include a coupon code for an extra 15-25%off. Being able to combine clearance deals with an extra percentage off really excites me!

3- Online Deal Sites

There are lots of daily deal sites that offer designer kids clothing at discount prices. They deals change daily. Some deals are great while others, not so much- but you never know what you’re going to find. Some of my favorite sites are Zulily and Totsy. I also keep a watch items on ebay as well. Often times, you can find new clothes with tags still on them for great prices.

4- Consignment Stores

I love finding a consignment store with great deals. One of my favorites is Keeping Pace With Multiple Miracles, located in West Bridgewater. Not only do they have great prices, but they have a sale at least once a month, where everything in the store is half off!I also recently discovered Savers in Hanover on Washington St. They had tons of new Halloween costumes at reasonable prices and I was very surprised by how clean and well lit the store was.

5- Consignment Sales

My favorite deals come from consignment sales- I count down the days to each one! They are huge consignment events that take place usually 2-3 days over the weekend. Lots of local families put their used kids clothes, toys, and equipment in the sale. One day is usually half price. Not only is it a great place to get lots of good clothes, but if you enter your kids old stuff to be consigned you can actually make a good chunk of money. Some of my favorite sales that are coming up soon are:

Children’s Clothesline

September 15-16

Cardinal Cushing Center Gym

405 Washington St. Hanover, MA

The Giving Tree Consignment

September 22-23

Knights of Columbus Hall

582 Bedford St, Bridgewater, MA

The Children’s Closet Sale

September 29-30

St Mary’s School Gym

106 Washington St., Taunton, MA

There They Grow Again

October 11- 13

Riley Hall

6- Hand-Me-Downs

Lastly, I never turn down hand-me-downs. I love digging through all the clothes to find new treasures. You never know what you’ll find!

  1. We clothe our children almost exclusively in hand me downs, but also purchase at bargain rates as needed. Thanks for sharing the links. I was not aware of all of them.
