We all have too much stress in our lives. Unfortunately for most of us, our ability to decrease the stressors that effect us is limited.
What we do have control over is how we respond to that stress. Balancing work, family, finances, and day-to-day activities is a challenging endeavor. Recent research suggests that meditation, even of short duration, can dramatically improve mood and reduce stress levels. To expect busy mothers to take an hour a day to do a full meditation session is not realistic.
What I would suggest to you is the following:
Either at home before dinner or if you are working before you come home in the car, play a soothing song on the radio. Close your eyes, breathe slowly and deeply, and focus on your breath. Your mind will want to wander and if that happens bring your focus back to your breath. When the song ends, slowly open your eyes. You will feel refreshed and better able to focus.
This only takes five minutes or less and can help you to better deal with the difficulties we all face daily. Best of all it’s free and doesn’t require a prescription!
